Childhood, Adolescence and Society VIII
Since the year 2000, the registered society “Welt der Kinder e.V.” (“world of children”) has organised international symposia. The programme of each one is decided on collectively with various partners and participants. The shared aspiration is to reflect upon the rapid and substantial changes of the present day in order to be able to react to change in a coordinated way, to anticipate and manage what the future has in store. “We take on board knowledge and insights from a wide range of fields, examine their basic principles, and then review our practical day-to-day actions.” The symposium has spawned a number of initiatives and projects that have borne fruit in the everyday lives of young people.
This symposium, with around 400 participants, is a place of encounter, a forum to facilitate orientation and networking as well as to provide assistance in the matter of collectively creating a fair, sustainable modus vivendi with young people. As polylog spaces for reflection, symposia enable participants, in ten concurrent workshops, to take cognizance of their biographically determined and vocationally influenced attitudes and values vis-à-vis children and adolescents, as well as their own personal frames of reference, and to widen them by means of input from talks, group debates and round table discussions. Participants also discuss and plan potential application of this input in practice on an individual basis.
Talks given in English are simultaneously translated into German.
“Dear Bregenz Festival House team,
The joint conception and planning of this event with your team was of exceptional quality. Right from the start, in the preparation stage, we were not only able to talk through all the details on the technical side, but it was also possible to give full consideration to the question of how to create an atmosphere of hospitality: an ambience in which people can engage together in the kind of reflection that begets the new, that generates solutions for socially urgent questions. What we were hoping to achieve was to create a place that people afterwards remember in a variety of ways and that gives them support in their everyday endeavours. And this was indeed the tenor of the feedback from our participants, both male and female.
Beyond superlative equipment and technology, Bregenz Festival House provides an architecture that serves people, affording views of wonderful natural surroundings in addition to a stimulating artistic ambience. More than that, however, you and your team members showed yourselves to be committed to the basic goals pursued by the event, and you spared no effort on our behalf.
We would like to thank you all most sincerely for this. We look forward to the next symposium.”
